Happy 4th Of July!

Here we come Nebraska!
Matt, Trevor and I drove to Nebraska on July 3, 2008. We left on Thursday after Matt got off of work and drove straight through. It took us about 10 hours to complete the drive. My mom and dad met us there and shared a room with us.

Friday we went to Matt's aunt Mary's house for fireworks. She was so gracious to entertain so many people. The guys fired off a shopping cart full of fireworks for everyone to watch.

Saturday was Matt's family reunion. It was nice having my parents there to finally meet my future in laws, and to see what type of family I was marrying into. I think they approved.

Sunday! All the women got together and made Mexican food! My favorite. There were enchiladas, beans, rice, menudo, fruit, pies, cakes, and more. But the one thing we were looking forward to eating was Matt's (and my) mom's tamales! The best in the world. You don't know tamales until you have had hers!!

Monday we drove to Ft. Morgan, Colorado. We stopped to clean off Matt's dads grave marker, and to say hi to a couple of friends. We then drove to Greeley to spend the night with Matt's mom and step dad. Lori (Matt's sister) made us enchiladas (the best) for dinner. They were out of this world as usual.

Tuesday we drove home (only eight hours). We were sad to leave as usual. We are looking forward to moving back next year. Now that grandmas gone, I feel that my duty is done here. I will be sad to leave Ogden, and will miss my family terribly, but I have promised Matt that we will spend more time with his mom. I am looking forward to being closer to her too. She is a wonderful mother-in-law, and I love her very much.

I want to thank my parents for driving 1200 miles one way to spend the weekend with us. I want to thank Matt's aunt Mary for putting up with so many people at her home. I thank Lori for the enchiladas. I thank God for keeping everyone safe in their travels. And I thank Tina for giving me such a wonderful man to spend my life with!

1:05 P.M.

Our heavenly father has taken my grandma, My mother, and My best friend.

Being given the opportunity, to lovingly take care of my grandmother Janice La Rae Everts for the last year has only been a blessing. Above is the rag quilt I gave her for Christmas. She passed away with that very blanket covering her, as if she were wrapped in my arms. I miss her more than words can describe, and my heart is very heavy. Not a day passes without her voice, laughter, and wisdom running through my head.

En Voyage

There's a ship sailing on to a harbor,

To a heaven of comfort and rest;

It's a ship of God's fashion and making,

And it's voyage by Him will be blest,

It departen with silence and beauty,

With the Master Himself, in command;

As with dignity truly majestic

It sailed out of sight of all land.

There will always be clear skies above it;

There will always be calmness below;

There will never be storms to harass it,

For the Master is on it you know,

And His wisdom will carry it safely

To the port of His infinite peace,

Where the light of His love will protect it

With a blessing that will never cease.

You have watched it sail onward and outward,

With a tear of regret in your eye,

For a loved one was sailing upon it,

And there's grief when your saying goodbye.

But your tears would be tears of rejoicing,

And your heart would be happy and free,

If you could look for only a moment

On that ship that is sailing to sea.

For the one you have loved is at leisure,

With no worry or trouble or care;

There's contentment beyond understanding,

In the way God's passengers fare.

And you'd known from your own observation

That the sailing was joyful - not grim,

For it means a new life and new living,

And a sweet, closer contact with him.

Oh, the solace there is iin the knowledge,

life is life and it always will be,

And it's simply a change in direction

When we sail on His ship out to sea.

And the tears we shed for our loved ones

Are in truth shed for us left behind,

For it hurts to give up to the master,

Tho we know he is gentle and kind.

So believe in His great and good wisdom,

Trust in him, as you patiently wait;

On His ship God is ever the pilot,

And the one you have loved is the mate.
